Outfit Ideas That I'm Obsessing Over: Vyshyvanka Pieces
I am absolutely in love with this trend because it hits so close to home, literally. This traditional Ukranian frock has been around for centuries and boasts more than just its now so-called "bohemian" look. During pagan times in Ukraine, women embroidered their dresses, and shirts for their men with specific patterns and details, like crosses and celestial patterns in the belief that they kept evil spirits away. The placement of these gorgeous details was very distinctive as well, typically at the neckline, back, shoulders and around the cuffs in belief that that's where the spirits could easily enter the body.
As a little girl born in Russia whose entire family came from Ukraine, these were the dresses I grew up seeing in my childhood books, on my dolls and hearing in my nursery rhymes. They are the costume of my people and my beloved culture. I'm so excited that such a beautiful piece of history from such an important part of the world has trickled down to the forefront of fashion.
Kind of a childhood dream come true, actually. I can walk around dressed up like my childhood dolls and look super chic while doing it.
While most vyshyvankiy are made from a linen fabric, some are a thicker material which are the ones I'm loving specifically for fall. With a beautiful high heeled boot and bold earrings, this is definitely the trend for the fashion chasers... and for some, like me, a trip down history lane.
