A Night with Fashion Illustrator, Holly Nichols
Just two weeks ago, Jessica and I had the pleasure of being invited to the opening night extravaganza for Fashion Week in Boston. Local fashionista turned Instagram maven, Holly Nichols was the guest of honor to start the week off with a bang. With over 500K followers on Instagram, this beyond talented fashion illustrator was the star of the show as she sat front and center and drew some of Boston's fashion industry leaders. I was lucky enough to be chosen to be drawn by Holly as well, and I'm still glowing about it!
One of the ideas I loved about this concept was being able to conceptually think about how to make the illustration pop and be multi-textural. When you're photographed, it's easy to see the layers or the fabric texture and the variation in color because it's 3D. The idea of being drawn made me think about how I would style myself to make the illustration more interesting.
This season, I've been coo-koo about monochromatic dressing. I usually wear bright colors and lots of print, but lately, I've been experimenting with softer colors and with layering which is perfect for fall dressing.
The look: Cami: Gap, Silk Pants: Rag & Bone, Headband: Nordstrom, Long vest: boutique in Soho, Heels: Vince Camuto.
I also wanted to try something different with my makeup, something that would really stand out but also relate to my color story. And who better to turn to than the talented Nancy Shafie of Nars Cosmetics. The way I see color and texture in clothing is the way she sees it with makeup and I'm in total awe of her talent. I told her my colors and she created this smoky look, with a bold eyebrow and subdued lip color that really made my eye color pop. Check out Nancy's Instagram~ @nanouce8
